As Tik Tok has grown in popularity, so have video contests for them.

Senior broadcast video student Mallory Seeger won $500 for her video on the dangers of distracted driving. Her Tik Tok was selected from over 1,000 other videos.

Seeger’s video had to highlight the Do Not Disturb setting and the video could only be one minute in length.

“I think one of my main goals throughout these projects has been to stress the dangers of distracted driving,” said Seeger. “I wanted to be able to warn others before it is too late.”

Seeger believes that her video stood out due to being able to thoroughly address the prompt and include what was asked for. Her video was made for an intended audience (high school students), and it also included some humor.

“The prize is actually going towards the annual Broadcast Video trip to the Student Television Network Convention,” said Seeger. “I also intend to share part of the winnings with the actor.”

Seeger also participated in the 2022 All American Film Festival from Oct. 21 through 23 in New York City.

For the festival, Seeger made a two-minute public safety announcement on the dangers of distracted driving and possible solutions. Although, Seeger’s video did not win at the All American Film Festival, she decided to edit her video and enter it into a Tik Tok contest.

Although Seeger does not plan on pursuing broadcast in the future, she plans on continuing to let her talent shine and enter more film competitions.

“I just submitted another video into a competition today,” said Seeger. “As competitions become available, I hope to be able to continue film-making as my hobby.”

Seeger believes that film can be a very competitive career. Therefore, making it challenging for some to make a living from it. Seeger emphasizes that the quote, “If you put your mind to it, you can achieve anything,” is not always true in the film industry.

“It is very gratifying when you are able to create a piece on your own, and have your voice heard,” said Seeger. “You have to just wait for your time to shine.”
