Basketball advances to states

After a hard fought season the girls’ basketball team has pushed forward to meet their goal of making it to states.

The team will be advancing to the first round of the state championship against Garnet Valley on March 8. The away game will begin at 6.

“It’s really awesome and we feel really accomplished,” said senior captain Hannah Woelfling. “No matter what the outcome, it’s just an awesome experience to be in.”

The last time the team made states was two years ago with key players Alyssa Austin and Ariel Jones. Both Austin and Jones were 1,000 point scorers.

“It feels good to make it to states, it’s really awesome,” said senior captain Madison Rambler. “We’re really excited and it’s going to be a good experience.”

The team made districts by beating Wilson in their game last Thursday. This was their second shot to make the state competitions.

“I honestly think it has a lot to do with team chemistry,” said Woelfling. “Skill got us here as well but this team is unlike any other team I’ve played with before.

“We all get along so well and have so much team chemistry and bond in and out of practice. It is just a really good atmosphere.”

Along with Woelfling and Rambler, the team is led by Varsity head coach Jim Donmoyer and Junior Varsity coach Chelsea Lutz.

“It feels really good to see this team reach the state playoffs,” said Donmoyer. “I am very happy for the players, especially the senior players.”

The team’s goals were to get a section title, which they did and then make it to districts and states. Both captains emphasized the team staying positive going into post season.

“We [as captains] are trying to keep everyone positive,” said Rambler. “We know we are a lower team going into states but we are trying to keep everyone positive so that we can still get a win.”
