The hills will be alive this weekend as junior Kara Peterschmidt makes her third appearance in CCHS theater as Maria in this year’s production of The Sound of Music.
“I feel very confident,” said Peterschmidt. “It is a great way to get out of your comfort zone. It’s a way to expose yourself and be vulnerable.”
Peterschmidt has been in around 12 productions including ones at the Lebanon Community Theater and the middle school.
“She is an excellent musician,” said Director Martha Pierce. “She seems to love what she’s doing. She has a very strong voice and she isn’t afraid.”
Pierce has directed both this year’s and last year’s musicals. This year the shows will be held in the auditorium March 1-3.
“I have to be very reserved and Catholic [to play Maria], and well, I am not Catholic nor reserved,” said Peterschmidt. “I have to tone myself down a little bit because she is very interesting.”
She played Belle in last year’s production of Beauty and the Beast where she starred alongside Sean Varner, who played the Beast. This year she is costarring with senior Aaron Ciccone, who plays Captain Von Trapp.
“It is wonderful to work with Kara,” said Ciccone. “I think it makes me, as an actor, do better because she is just very good at what she does.”
He and Peterschmidt are friends both on and off the stage. Being romantic with each other was not always easy but both overall enjoyed the experience.
“I think everyone should come see the show,” said Peterschmidt. “Expect lots of yodeling, German folk dancing, and just a good old time.”
