For some teams, it is difficult to keep the momentum going into the post season.
This, however, was not the case for the boys’ and girls’ swim teams when they competed at the L-L League meet on Friday and Saturday at Wilson Aquatic Center.
Overall, the boys’ team placed second and the girls’ team tied for fifth at the meet.
A total of 18 swimmers qualified for Leagues, and many succeeded throughout their events. One such swimmer is freshman Logan Smith, who set a team and league record of 58.25 seconds in the 100 breast.
“As a team we put in hours of hard work and dedication to prepare for this meet,” said Smith.
Smith also competed in the 200 IM, the 200 medley and free relays.
“It felt amazing to be up there competing with seniors,” said Smith. “The best part was standing there knowing that I have three more years of this.”
Seniors Gabe Deiderick and Cameron Hains and sophomore Nathan Kline also contributed to the team’s success at leagues.
Deiderick secured second place in the 50 free, and third in the 100 free. The boys' relay team of Deiderick, Smith, Hains, and Kline also placed second in both the 200 medley and 200 free relays.
“We all did very well as a whole,” said Smith. “I truly have the best team anyone could ask for.”
After a competitive regular season record of 3-2, the bar was set high for the girls’ team moving into the post season.
Senior Krysta Weik placed fourth in the 200 IM and made a significant impact in the 200 medley relay, placing second.
“It was amazing that almost everyone on the team did personal best,” said Weik.
Junior Emily Beard placed sixth in the 50 free and eighth in the 100 fly, which got points on the board for the girls’ teams.
“The mood of this meet was so exciting,” said Beard. “We all were really happy with each other’s performances.”
The team has already begun looking for strategies as to how they can prepare for Districts, and continue with the success they had at Leagues.
“We all will be getting our rest, and approach the district meet with a positive mindset,” said Weik.
The list of swimmers who have qualified for districts will be released this Friday. The district meet is set to be held March 1-2 at Cumberland Valley High School.
