Cheer advances to states
When it comes to athletics, all teams want to win and advance as far as possible in their season.
The cheerleading team has achieved this goal and is advancing to the state competition Jan. 11-12.
“The team is really excited to have qualified for states and to show all the skills we have been practicing,” said senior Myah Chapman.
The team is led by seniors Morgan Menser, Chapman and Mackenzy Thomas. The team is coached by Holly Boger.
“It means everything to us to make it to states,” said Thomas. “This competition is a big deal and we are putting all of our time and effort into it.”
The team has been practicing a lot for this competition. Their practices are after school but occasionally occur in the evening depending on when they can get gym time.
“I enjoy watching them grow as cheerleaders and as people and watching their skills progress,” said Boger.
The team has been prepping by practicing new drills to sharpen their abilities. They have also been performing what they already have to improve on their technique.
“It means a lot to us to have qualified for this competition,” said Chapman. “All our hard work helped us place high enough at districts to earn this opportunity.”
If the team places high enough the first day they will advance to semifinals the next. The team is also awaiting nationals in February.
“I am looking forward to the memories we will make,” said Thomas. “Even if we win or lose, the team will always be a family to all of us.”
