Wrestlers prepare for upcoming season

When teams think of goals, they consider qualifying for Leagues, Districts, or having a perfect season. Wrestling Coach Christopher Voshell aspires for bigger goals.

“My goal as a head coach is for the men in our program to be successful in post high school life no matter that that is,” said Voshell. “I want them to be contributing members of society, to go on to college and graduate, to begin careers and to be good husbands and dads someday.”

Some wrestlers hope to achieve individual goals.

“(I want to) do better than last year,” said junior Todd Moore, who I went 21-10 last season in his first year of wrestling. “Hopefully, just my leadership really affects people and could help others better themselves.”

The wrestling team has not lost any key wrestlers from last season, but, instead, has gained junior Damion Gebhart, and sophomore Dylan Steiber and Brett Walsh. In addition to Moore, key returners include senior Nick Stoudt, junior Ryan Scicchitano and sophomore Taylor Gehman.

“I like just having more kids in here, more people to practice with,” said Scicchitano. “We know each other a long time, so our whole team’s back.”

The wrestlers are anxious to start the season.

“I am going to bring leadership and my knowledge of wrestling,” said Stoudt. “We have to stay healthy and prevent injuries and then we will start winning.”

“I am extremely proud of the work they have done so far and the relationships that have been formed,” said Voshell. “They are a tremendous group of young men and I look forward to seeing what kind of adults they become.”
