After a competitive season last winter, the boys’ and girls’ swim teams look to build even more onto their success.
The team consists of multiple strong returners from last season, and a few new faces that will ultimately help the team win meets.
“This season will be very exciting,” said senior Krysta Weik. “Everyone seems to not only be great swimmers, but they also have a lot of positivity,”
Seniors Weik, Gabriel Deiderick, Cameron Hain, Katie Mowery; junior Gabby Talys, and sophomores Nathan Kline and Madi Ortiz have all proven to be assets to the team based of their performance last season.
“Every member of the team is essential this year,” said Mowery. “Even the new members will play a key role in our success.”
Though many of the team’s standout swimmers are seasoned swimmers, junior Emily Beard and freshmen Logan Smith and Lizzy Vila are new members that have shown strength during the preseason.
“As a team I really hope we can make better times and make Districts,” said Mowery.
The swimmers have mentally and physically prepared themselves to succeed, making sure to implement new exercises at practice, all while improving their basic fundamentals.
“A combination of work with calisthenics and swimming six days a week has really helped all of us prepare for this season,” said senior Deiderick.
It is clear that the team and coaches are excited for this winter season, striving for a lot of success and improvement.
“It is essential for our swimmers to work together and become united as a team,” said new head coach Gregory Fulkerson, who has taken over for longtime coach Beth Yocum.
