Basketball strives for districts

Most sports teams function properly off positivity and team unity. This will certainly be the case for the boys’ basketball team this season.

Last season the boys went 18-7 under head coach Thomas Smith. They also qualified for the Lancaster Lebanon League playoffs and were 6A District 3 qualifiers.

Smith feels confident that the returning player and new standouts will lead the team to success this season.

“We have a lot of size and athleticism,” said Smith. “Our players play our system really well.”

The boys have strengths on both offense and defense with key returners’ seniors Logan Horn and Brody Dunlop, and junior Jason Eberhart.

“We have all worked to be leaders to the underclassmen,” said junior Jason Eberhart. “We have showed everyone how to be a winner at a higher level.”

Also contributing to the team will be seniors Jaquan Andino, Neisso Dorvil, Trey Kalbach, Devin Shay; and juniors Grant Allwein, Ileri Ayo-Faleye, Amani Jones, Cole Miller, Amani Jones, Derek Kern Samir Nasr, Carson Perlaki, Trey Shutter, and Eric Wawrzyniak.

“We have worked really well this preseason” said Dorvil, “I can’t wait to see everyone improve as the season progresses.”

Smith has set high standards for the team, as he hopes to be competitive in Section 1 of the Lancaster Lebanon League.

“If we are competitive in Section 1, we will be able to accomplish our other goal of qualifying for District 3 playoffs,” said Smith.

Overall the team is excited to see how their hard work and perseverance will pay of this season and carry the team into the post season.

“There is a lot we can accomplish,” said Horn, “We just have to come together as a family and continue practicing and playing hard.”

The team has lost key players from last season, including Blake Thomson, Dylan Miller, Cole Laney, Jaiden Melendez, and Brandon Showers. Thomson has continued his basketball career at Albright University; Melendez also plays basketball at Mount Saint Mary’s College in New Yok, while Laney chose to continue is football career at Temple University.
