Incredible performances and detailed reproductions tribute Queen in “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
While the band is renowned around the world, their exceptional story is widely unknown.
The film follows the band’s story through the eyes of lead singer Freddie Mercury, played by Rami Malek (“Mr. Robot” 2015-present, “Night at the Museum” 2006). It depicts the band’s humble beginnings as a pub band and the hardships they faced along their journey to fame.
The cast, who looks almost identical to the members they play, immerse viewers in the story through well-researched acting.
The story of Queen is especially brought to life by the passionate acting of Malek, who plays the fabulous Freddie Mercury.
Malek’s spellbounds viewers with his intense reenactment of Mercury’s complex character. He even went as far as to adapt to talking with false teeth to truly instill who Mercury was.
Another highlight of the film is its applicable use of the band’s songs.
The bands most famous songs are not just randomly strewn together as they are in most music-based films. They are placed following the path of the band and used when appropriate to the struggles they face, which gives insight into the making of some of their most famous songs.
Thematically, “Bohemian Rhapsody” uses detailed event reproductions and timely song introductions as tools allowing its dedicated actors to depict the band’s captivating story.
