Principal honors father with doctorate

Balancing college in addition to work and a family to pursue a doctoral degree is a considerable challenge not many can accomplish.

Over the last five years, Assistant Principal Barbara May has done just that and come through with her doctorate.

“In the beginning it was stressful,” said May. “I had to figure out how to work our routines, and having two teenage daughters with schoolwork and work, it is pretty stressful.”

“[The benefit] is the pride and accomplishment,” said May.

Many want the title of doctorate and many want the salary but May was motivated by her father, who pushed her to better herself with education.

“It was a challenge issued by my father and how I always needed to go all the way,” said May.

Despite life-changing events over the last five years, May did not change her career goal.

“I enjoy people-related careers, and the social setting of being with people,” said May.

May has made her family, her work, herself and most of all her father proud.
